Blogging is a form of communication that is posted on a website. The word, "blog", comes from the term web log, which was eventually shortened to its new term: blog. A blog can include photos and videos and audio files. Bloggers usually encourage dialogue with their reader by encouraging them to post comments or answer questions. In the beginning blogs were mainly online diaries that people kept so that close friends or family members could keep track of what was going on in their lives. Whether you are choosing Wordpress or Tumblr, your basic blog will look the same, consisting of: title, headline, body, postdate comments, tags, and more. Your tags are the way that other people find you in search engines, so you will want to keep those in mind when writing the blog. Most blog sites provide highly customizable experiences. You can select your template (which determines how your blog looks, including its layout) from a list of free designs—usually provided by the blogging service, or pay for a template. There are other sites out there that will sell blog skins or templates. These can be found by doing a search. Nearly all blogging sites offer registration for free, but if you are serious about the subject eventually you will get a sight that has its own domain name, rather than piggyback off of the service.

Create a blog on whatever topic you like, but it is usually best to start with a marketable subject that you like to talk about. Also, if you can, refine the topic so that your blog stands out. For example, there are a million fashion blogs out there, so how would you make yours different? Maybe you can blog about red shoes only, or retro fashions. You want to be creative, but also find your unsaturated niche.

You can vent to the world, write about things that you care about, discuss your life…there is no limitation. Well, except for the terms and conditions you must agree to when you register! Blogging can be an enjoyable way to earn some extra cash, but it can also turn into something more if you are successful.
